Lincoln Heritage Pheasants Forever Named Chapter of Year
March 2, 2018 by Paula Homann
The Lincoln Heritage Pheasants Forever Chapter which includes Coles and Cumberland counties has been recognized by Pheasants and Quail Forever of Illinois as “Chapter of the Year”. The Lincoln Heritage Chapter has been around for over 16 years and is dedicated to the conservation of pheasants, quail, and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs. They have a fundraising banquet each year that allows them to sponsor several youth events including educational displays that teach youth about habitat projects and agricultural management that benefits all wildlife. They also provide free monthly youth clay target and wing shooting clinics at the Charleston Sportsman’s Club which promotes safe handling, respect and proper use of firearms by qualified instructors. A free annual youth pheasant hunt is also provided which focuses on safety and the proper way to hunt and harvest game. They have worked closely with Farm Bill Biologists and partners on multiple habitat projects in the East Central Illinois area. They attend State and District meetings every year and support State and National Pheasants Forever Programs including the Illinois PF/QF Fund, Illinois Chapter Challenge, Legislative Action Fund, and No Child Left Indoors. This year they even stepped up and volunteered at multiple Adult Learn to Hunt events in the area where they assisted participants with shooting instruction and provided a pheasant hunt where many participants harvested and cleaned their first game birds ever.
